The first round of the Championship Pairs featured strong performances from 2 of the 3 leading pairs from 2005. David and Pru Dowson were the winners, continuing their good scores from last year. Sue Eckersley and John Lockett, in third place last year, again scored well. The surprise was, perhaps, the somewhat below par score from Tom and Hazel Evans, last year's winners. Some of this stemmed from a missed slam and a 'discussion' involving a jump-shift. See post to follow on the use and meaning of this bid!
