New Rules don't work!

The jury is no longer out! We have given the new rules on announcements a fair trial and they are not working.

The main effect is that people are simply ignoring them. They are not saying anything about their partners opening no trump or 2 bids. When challenged they either say they forgot or (increasingly) that they have heard that the EBU has changed its mind and rescinded the rules! (as if.......)

I think the whole thing is now a shambles. Is there any penalty for failing to announce? If not then I think in most clubs the idea will simply fall into disuse. I don't want to be the one to enforce any penalties anyway!

The rules on alerting seem to be better understood and observed. However, if you play on the internet, the 'old rules' seem to apply which is totally confusing.

Maybe the time has come for the EBU to feel the full effect of public opinion. Please add a comment on the announcements procedure in particular and say if you agree with me that these should simply be abandoned. I will forward the result to the EBU. Please do this and get your friends to 'vote'. Even the EBU might have to actually listen to grass-roots players eventually!
