New Rules -alertable bids

The focus on the new rule changes has been on 'announcements'. However there are changes as to which bids are alertable.

A simple summary would seem to be:

All the bids below are not alertable:

  • opening 1 club bids on three or more cards .
  • 2 diamond negative to Stayman enquiry .
  • completion of transfers i.e. 2 hearts after 2 diamonds and 2 spades after 2 hearts .
  • All bids after 3NT apart from artificial opening bids above 3NT.
  • Take out doubles of natural suit bid by opponents.
  • Take out doubles of short phoney or nebulous 1 club or diamond opening.
  • Penalty double of opponents no-trump bid.
  • A redouble showing strength, which partner is usually expected to pass.
